Design is an act of
listening first

I'm a Maine-based Senior UX Designer with over a decade of experience across B2B and B2C SaaS — from veterinary telemedicine at IDEXX to healthcare payments at PayGround to gig-economy onboarding at HomeAdvisor.

I'm passionate about using technology to better ourselves, our society, and our environment — particularly in human & pet healthcare and finance. I've worked in both corporate and startup environments, and I love seeing a product move from concept to execution to iteration.

Outside of product design, I also run Jennifer Brennan Design, a freelance brand and web design practice serving small, Maine-based businesses. When I'm not at a desk, I'm wrangling 2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 babies, and 1 husband — catching Motocross races in the summer, snowmobiling in the winter, and renovating our 1800s home.

Thoughtful about
AI-assisted design

I believe AI tools have real potential to improve the UX workflow — surfacing research patterns faster, generating copy variants, and handling repetitive tasks so I can spend more time doing what matters most: actually talking to users.

At the same time, I approach these tools with intention. I'm not anti-AI — I'm discerning about when, why, and how I use them, weighing the benefits against genuine concerns I hold about their broader impact.

Where it helps
Efficiency gains
Faster synthesis, research screening, and documentation — freeing time for direct user engagement.
🔬
Where it helps
Ideation support
Exploring a wider solution space and challenging assumptions before committing to a direction.
Environmental impactThe energy cost of large AI models is real and growing. I try to use AI purposefully — not habitually — and factor this into how often and for what I reach for these tools.
Data & securityUser research contains sensitive data. I'm careful about what I feed into AI tools, and I don't use them in contexts where privacy or confidentiality could be at risk.
Mental health & dependencyDesign is a creative and empathetic discipline. I'm conscious of not outsourcing the thinking that keeps the work (and the designer) sharp, curious, and human.
The bottom lineI use AI like any other tool — intentionally, when it genuinely serves the work. I ask "should I?" before I ask "can I?"
